Bible - The word of god or what?
The Bible is just one of many tomes written by people who are trying to figure out the mysteries of the universe AND the possibility of life after death. Unfortunately for us, the authors of the Bible also had big egos and liked to introduce tons of unneccesary rules to society. It amazes me that this book as well as others are taken seriously by so many people....so much so that people will KILL for these ideas.
In reality, no one really knows what happens after we die, or all of the mysteries of the universe. Given that fact, I live this life to the fullest, trying to be the best person I can. I also think it's an interesting form of social control to tell people who are being oppressed that things will be perfect after death as long as you are good and don't make waves. It makes oppression alot easier to accomplish when the working people of the world are fed this garbage by those in control.
Indeed. I think all fundamentalists of all religions would do well to take a few big steps back and try to view the situation from a more neutral perspective. We have a Bible. We have a Q'uran. We have Upansishads. We have a Bhagavad-Gita. We have a Torah. You get the idea. This is just what people do. They write these "Holy Books." There is no reason to prefer one over the other, or any at all, other than personal conviction. There is no evidence that any of them are correct. I believe that is the whole point of faith, no? It's not about evidence.
Not to mention innumerable 'indigenous' religions practiced by hunter-gatherer bands of maybe a few hundred people in the Amazon Basin or the jungles of Papua New Guinea, which are really exactly the same thing as the 'big' religions, they just don't have armies to help them prosyletize. (Is there anyone who knows how to spell that word?)
prosthelytize
There is no evidence that any of the holy books are right because they are all wrong. Ergo, there is no god.
Actually, I kinda like Landover Baptist: http://www.landoverbaptist.org/
I think all of you will go straightly to hell.
Lil-Daisy
Loved the use of straightly by the way.
Thank you for your opinion but there is no such thing as hell. Indeed it's not even a judeo/christian/islamic concept. It comes in fact from Norse Mythology. Unless you believe in Thor and Odin and Sigurd Fafnirsirsbane (Seigfried who killed Fafnir - that's the meaning of Sigurd Fafnirsirsbane - the king who Beowolf helped) you actually should not believe in hell. Particularly if you are a christian!
Are you a follower of the Norse gods? If so you are something I haven't come across yet and therefore I am quite excited. Please tell me you are - it would make my day!!!!!
